Nathan Handheld: LOVE
So I was always on the fence about carrying anything during my runs. I've never been a fan and so have gone through various waistbelts. I now also own a Hydraquiver that I use for hiking and for runs where the weather allows for sleeves. I haven't taken it out in a tank top yet- but I'm super worried about chafing.
So that's where the handheld came in. A few weeks back as it was drawing closer to RNR Nashville and it looked like it was going to be a hot one I decided to try it out. I hadn't been able to get long runs in with the hydraquiver and it barely got warm enough for me to try with a tank. I needed something else.
When I was getting fitted for new shoes I decided to grab one of these Nathan's. It will hold my GUs, keys, phone or GoPro and I can drink 16oz of water along the way. It was super helpful during RNR Nashville and I've been using it ever since. I carry it on most of my runs now that the temps are getting higher and the humidity it seems is always sky high.
Carrying something isn't so bad when you don't really have to hold onto it! The hand strap makes that very easy. :)
Garmin 225 : LOVE
I resisted switching to Garmin for a LONG time because I was worried I would lose all my old data that I had with my Nike Plus watch. I had been running with Nike since 2009 when I really started tracking my runs.
Why did I wait so long??? This watch is worth every penny and more. It connects ridiculously fast to GPS, has the ability to activity track my daily movements, my heartrate and pace, AND it will connect with Nike Plus to load all my runs in there! SO I win at everything. Nike still works and Garmin works and I have a watch that is ridiculously amazing.
The Connect App always works with My Fitness Pal so I track my foods daily there to get accurate calorie burn numbers. I also connect to Strava to team Oiselle.
This watch is the best. If you're on the fence please purchase. Garmin has released an update of course- now it is the 235 but you'll love it. I never take mine off except to charge- it has become a part of me. GET IT!!!
Roll Recovery: LOVE
Move over foam roller, there's a new guy in town. I had seen so many people online using this but thought it seemed a little pricy for a roller- especially when I already had a foam roller.
Then one of my lovely Oiselle teammates secured a discount for everyone and I decided to take the plunge and make the purchase.
HOLY COW. It hurts so good. Right out of the box I decided to try out the initial exercises it showed you on the intro card. It felt terrible and amazing all at the same time. I was able to really get after certain muscles without having to awkwardly lie on the floor and slide back and forth.
I was totally sold. Since then I've been using it all the time. I try to roll down every morning after my workout. I start with the IT band, move to my hamstrings and quads, then up to my glutes and hip flexors and finish out at my calves. Everything feels so much better!!! And I honestly think it's helping me heal faster from my current injuries- especially with my cramping left calf.
So- despite what is a high price- it is 100% worth it. You can easily travel with Roll Recovery- so it'll come along on all my race weekends now. No more foam roller for me- this is where it's at.
I can't tell you how stinking excited I was to receive the below email!!
hello and welcome to the nuunbassador family!
Nuun Energy - LOVE
After using Nuun for a few years now I decided to give their energy version a try and I'm in love. I still have a special place in my heart for Orange and will keep using that one as my non-caffeinated Nuun of choice but for an extra boost- Nuun Energy is great.
They have three different flavors: Lemon-Line, Wild Berry and Cherry Limeade. I enjoy all three but Cherry Limeade is my favorite. It tastes amazing and I'd drink it all the time if the caffeine wouldn't keep me up at night!!
Nuun is a great replacement for gatorade lovers- the taste is pretty similar but no added sugar. I always felt like Gatorade would leave a sickly sweet taste in my mouth and Nuun doesn't do that.
Highly recommended for anyone who works out OR anyone who enjoys keeping their electrolytes in check!
Injinji Toe Socks - LOVE!!!
These socks have changed my running game. While injured I was doing a lot of walking and hiking and noticed how badly my last two toes were getting blistered. It often happened when I ran longer distances but I'd brushed it off as too small of shoes or too old shoes as the problem. After doing a little internet research on how others have solved their blister problem I stumbled upon Injinjis.
Now I was very skeptical- how could it be comfortable to have fabric between your toes and especially when running?! But I assure you, I feel nothing. Once I slip on a pair of shoes it feels just like wearing any other sock except my toes are perfectly spread apart. Not more pinky toe blisters!!
Of course I had to order these and none of the nearby stores carried them. I chose to get two pairs of regular running 2.0 socks and 1 pair of women's running 2.0 socks. In truth they fit me about the same with the women's feeling a little more compressed. In the future I'll still order from both sections as there aren't many women's choices yet. All of these were low runners and I'm hoping to try out their knee high compression ones soon. I also was given a medium height pair of regular socks as a bonus which makes me want to convert all my socks to injinjis.
They make socks for hiking and everyday wear that come in lots of fun colors and designs (even ones for halloween!)
Injinjis- you rock. Thank you for saving my toes!
Manduka eKO Superlite Travel Yoga Mat- LIKE/LOVE
I ordered this mat to travel to Vancouver and Seawheeze as the weekend has three yoga sessions. My roomie for the weekend wasn't really interested in the yoga so I only used it during the very last session. The Manduka eKO Superlite Travel Yoga Mat did nicely fold and pack in my luggage great though!! I was glad to be able to have it if only for the party/concert so I didn't have to sit in the grass.
I've used it more since I've been home as my go-to yoga mat while I waited for my hip to heal. It is nice and thin with just a little bit of stickiness to keep my feet in place. My only complaint is it bunches up sometimes or catches on my feet if I kick it by accident. But for travel and an easy mat it is great! Highly recommend for traveling purposes!!
Vega Protein & Greens: LOVE
I have been on the hunt for a better protein and nutrient shake that keeps costs down. I like Shakeology from Beach Body but could not justify the price. I had seen a lot of the runners I follow using Vega products and so thought I'd see what they had to offer.
They have a couple of products that would fit what I was looking for- but I decided to go with Protein and Greens since it has one serving of protein and two of greens. I never feel like I get enough of those so this is great. Their other product- Nutritional Shake- I have not tried but it's on my list. It's a little more expensive that P&G but is a meal replacement. I use P&G as a supplement to my breakfast. It really helps to keep me full until lunch- so no snacks here!
I drink the chocolate flavor, but it also comes in Vanilla, Tropical, Berry and Natural. Cost is around $30 a container- 16 servings so $1.88 a drink. Much better than $4 a drink!! Plus Kroger puts it on sale a lot making it even cheaper.
So if you're looking for a tasty protein and nutrient drink and don't want to break the bank- this is the solution for you!
Picky Bars - LOVE
As a total instagram running stalker I stumbled upon Picky Bars. I kept seeing the runner I follow talk about them and how they were using them for fuel. I had been using Lara Bars (which I do love) but sometimes they make my stomach upset before a race. So I thought I've give Picky Bars a try.
They are created by athletes for athletes so they use only whole foods but have the right ratio of protein to carbs. They come in seven different flavors so as a newbie to the product I thought it best to get a sampler pack to try out each flavor.
Need for Seed: Sunflower Butter Sensation
Cookie Doughpness: Cinnamon Blazin' Raisin
Lauren's Mega Nuts: Peanut Butter Booyah
Blueberry Boomdizzle: Blueberry Vanilla Thrilla
Ah, Fudge Nuts: Cacao-abunga Brownie
All-In Almond: Agave Sweetened Awesomesauce
Smooth Caffeinator: Hazelnut Mocha Madness
After trying out all seven during or before runs or while hiking I decided Cookie Doughpness, Lauren's Mega Huts and Ah, Fudge Nuts were my favorites and joined the Picky Club to have the shipped to me monthly. They aren't sold in stores so this is my way of staying healthy and fueling my body while working out. Highly recommend trying these out if you're looking for something different and tasty!!
UnderArmour Shorts - LOVE x10
I'm obsessed with these shorts. I bought one pair a couple of years ago when the 'chub rub' was getting to be too much with regular running shorts. Being blessed with soccer thighs the others just weren't cutting it anymore. This spring I finally broke down and bought two more pairs as my original pair is starting to wear out and I would be lost without them.
When I was originally buying I knew I wanted a pair with a bit of length to them but not too long as if they were cycling shorts. I found the magical 7 inch length and I've never looked back. They stay put like no one's business. A couple of week's ago this was incredibly evident- we had been out hang gliding as part of our free beach week and not once did the shorts budge. I had an awesome tan/burn line to show off after that is still not completely gone.
So I say if you're looking for a good pair of compression shorts with a bit of length that'll never move- these are your pick. Buy them now!!
