Again with the race nutrition. I had been using power bars for years but my stomach was not always keen with the results from those. At a few different races in the post-race swag bag I'd tried LaraBars and thought they tasted pretty good but was never hooked. Then I recently had an Apple Pie one - YUM! They are made of all good for you ingredients and no fillers. Mostly fruit and nuts but sometimes a little chocolate or peanut butter is thrown in for added protein or taste. These bad boys are also dairy free, gluten free, soy free, vegan and kosher. So in my mind a much better alternative from Power Bars.
I delved into other flavors too such as Blueberry Muffin and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip. And while I definitely really like the apple and blueberry flavors, peanut butter chocolate chip has become my go to on long run or race mornings. I love that I can't tell that it's made of dates but then there's a hint of peanut butter and lots of dark chocolate morsels. Take a look at the inside for yourself... doesn't it look tasty??
For cost-effective purposes I've been ordering in bulk from AllStar Health. I found that they seemed to be the cheapest AND I could set up monthly ordering if I needed it. So far I haven't come to that but I know that this coming spring as I get back into training for races I'll be using them again. They are also such a good alternative than typical candy dessert! And who knows maybe I'll venture into other flavors??
